Olds River

American River

The American River on Kodiak Island is a must-visit destination for anglers seeking a true Alaskan fishing experience. Buskin River

Located just a 40-minute drive from the Airbnb, the Buskin River is one of Kodiak Island’s most iconic and accessible fishing destinations. Known for its reliable runs of salmon, including Chinook (king), silver (coho), and pink salmon, the Buskin offers excellent fishing opportunities throughout the summer and early fall. The river is particularly famous for its early-season Chinook, which draw anglers from mid-June through July. As the season progresses, silvers take center stage, with peak action occurring in August and September.

Kalsin Bay Beach/Mouth of Olds

Kalsin Bay on Kodiak Island is a prime fishing destination, offering abundant opportunities to catch pinks, silvers, chums, and even kings. The beach is teeming with salmon. Accessible by a dirt road near Kalsin Pond, the beach is perfect for surf fishing. The river mouth is particularly productive for Chinook in July and Coho in September.  Whether you're targeting salmon or bottomfish, Kalsin Bay is a must-visit spot.

Psagshak River

Located just 8 miles from the house, the Pasagshak River is a premier fishing destination that offers a unique and rewarding experience for anglers visiting Kodiak Island. Known for its strong runs of Chinook (king) and silver (coho) salmon, this scenic river is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The river’s accessibility adds to its appeal, with a well-maintained road leading to its banks and ample parking near the mouth. Wading is a popular option, allowing you to work the river’s productive pools and riffles while surrounded by breathtaking views of rugged mountains and the nearby ocean. In addition to salmon, the Pasagshak River and its estuary are known for occasional catches of Dolly Varden and rainbow trout, making it a versatile spot for targeting multiple species.​

Russian River

The Russian River near Bell’s Flats  is a well-known fishing spot, offering excellent opportunities to catch salmon in a scenic, easily accessible location. This river sees strong runs of silver (coho) salmon in late summer and early fall, making it a favorite among local anglers. The relatively small size of the river allows for great shore fishing, whether using spinners, spoons, or fly-fishing techniques. The Russian River is also home to Dolly Varden, providing a fun challenge for those looking to land more than just salmon.
